Anna's English Wedding Celebrations

We gave up on the grandchild's cake and decided it was time to cut it!

As Anna and Pasi were married in Kilopaa in Finland, none of their English friends were able to be present, but a get-together was on the cards for some time in the future and it happened when they were living in Edale. Mike and I were included on the list of invited guests.

We drove to Hope and met the others in a pub for a meal. Familiar faces included Sean Fishpool, Tom Gibbs, Nila Banerjee, Keith Byrne and Nick Leavers from the RGS. Mike and I enjoyed a spot of simple rock-climbing on Stanage Edge with Nila and Nick. Anna and Pasi had planned a fun weekend of sporting competitions – mountain biking, hill running and kick-biking and I acted as check-in official after each race. One challenge was to see who could drink the most beer during a round of biking and some of the lads took advantage of my ignorance of drinks to fool me into clocking up their receipts for J20 till Anna copped on to what they were doing! It was altogether a fun weekend and I can’t believe so many people slept there: every bit of space in the house had a body stretched out in a sleeping bag and some slept in tents in the orchard and yet others in camper vans on the layby across the road. On the Sunday night we had a final session in the local pub and my lasting memory is of Keith passing downhill entertaining us to his antics on a kick-bike.
